LEGO workshop – children from 6 to 12 years old

An initiative of our colleagues at TDL Mauricie-Centre-Du Québec in 2017, we are putting forward this magnificent project at TDL Montérégie.

The LEGO workshop, as a fun activity, offers multiple benefits for people with language difficulties. Indeed, learning through play promotes a relaxed and engaging environment, conducive to the acquisition of varied skills.

Description

REGISTRATION IN PROGRESS

Here are some of the specific benefits of this approach:

  1. Vocabulary development : Manipulating LEGO bricks allows you to learn and use new words, including terms related to colors, shapes, sizes and building instructions.
  2. Teamwork : Collaborative activities encourage participants to communicate, share ideas, and solve problems together, strengthening their ability to work in a group.
  3. Understanding Abstract Concepts : Building models with LEGO translates abstract concepts into tangible elements, which helps in the understanding of complex ideas, such as spatiality and causality.
  4. Rules of communication : The workshops provide a framework where participants learn how to use rules of communication, such as active listening and turn-taking, which are essential for effective interaction.
  5. Math skills : Building with LEGO involves pattern recognition, measurement, and counting, which helps develop math skills in a fun way.

In short, the LEGO workshop is presented as a tool, combining fun and learning, and promoting the development of essential skills for people with language difficulties. The interactions created around the assembly of the bricks allow for a significant improvement in skills, while stimulating creativity and imagination.
